Having 'dabbled' on piano from infancy, Byron officially commenced his musical escapades on guitar at five and began formal education on piano at nine. Fast-forward to twenty one, when he went on to study guitar and improv under Russ Tuttle, and attended Dick Grove's composing / arranging program in Studio City . There, he narrowly survived exposure to instructors Sammy Nestico (orchestration), Diz Ullman (copying), Lalo Schiffrin (Thematic development), Henry Mancini (music business), Tom Scott, etc.
As a player, he is extremely versatile and equally adept at all styles from Jazz / Fusion to Country, Big Band to Funk / R&B and all Rock styles, Blues to Latin to slide and acoustic forms.
Having played in rhythm sections of all styles since age ten, he is as at home in the studio as on stage. With perfect pitch and a 'team player' approach to music and life, he's a good trouble shooter to have around.
All this has made Byron the guitarist of choice on projects with such great studio cats as David Garfield, Jon Pena, Dave Goldblatt, Gary Novak, Alphonso Johnson, Tower of Power Rhythm Section, Tower of Power Horns, Everett Harp, Will Kennedy and a slew of others. |
